How to Make and Use a Backpack in Deep Dish Dungeon

Craft the portable storage container, use it safely, and compare it with the Pouch.

1. Gather the three ingredients

  1. Find or make 1 Leather. You can make additional Leather at a Workbench from 2 Animal Hide after unlocking the recipe; see Leather.
  2. Collect 2 Ragged Cloth from dungeon loot. Keep both until you have the other materials.
  3. Gather 2 Vines + 1 Stick and make 1 Rope in hand Crafting.
  4. Confirm you have 1 Leather, 2 Ragged Cloth, 1 Rope before spending anything.

2. Craft the Backpack

  1. Open the ordinary Crafting menu, not the Workbench.
  2. Select Backpack and confirm the required items.
  3. Craft it. The Backpack is a physical container you can interact with rather than an invisible permanent upgrade.
  4. Approach the finished Backpack and read its interaction prompts.

3. Carry items in the Backpack

  1. Use the Carry prompt to lift the Backpack. Follow the Carry and Open prompts on your screen; their keys depend on your control settings.
  2. Open the inventory while carrying it to access the Backpack's storage slots.
  3. Move supplies into the Backpack for the return journey.
  4. Put it down before a chase, tricky jump or fight where you need to sprint.
  5. Pick it back up when the dangerous section is over. Do not leave progression keys or your only important tool in a bag you cannot return to.

4. Backpack or Pouch?

ItemHow to makeWhy choose it?
Backpack1 Leather + 2 Ragged Cloth + 1 Rope, hand CraftingCarry a separate container for supplies; you cannot sprint while carrying it
Pouch2 Leather + 2 Vines, WorkbenchAdds 3 inventory slots without hauling a separate container

Choose a Backpack for a gathering trip where storage matters most; for fast exploration or combat, a Pouch may fit better. Check the available slots in the Backpack itself rather than assuming it has the same capacity as a Pouch.

5. If you spent all your Leather on Backpacks

  1. Go back through the early sewer route and search chests, including the Bone Club chest, for another Leather pickup. Continue deeper if you have already collected that loot.
  2. Catch Rats, process them into Raw Meat for Animal Hide and collect 2 hides.
  3. Build a Workbench from 3 Wood Planks + 2 Iron Rods + 1 Leather if you have not built one yet. Once the recipe is unlocked, use the Workbench to make 1 Leather from 2 Animal Hide.
  4. Before building another Backpack, save Leather for the Workbench or Cooking Table if one is blocking your next project.
