Where to Find the Pickaxe in Deep Dish Dungeon

Enter the prison, find the lower staircase, and take the Pickaxe back to blocked Goo Piles.

1. Enter the prison

  1. Obtain the Prison Key from the chest to the right of the Jaguar Door.
  2. Return to the hall and get the Small Key from the chest on its upper-left cave route.
  3. Drag the wooden plank across the upper gap and cross the bridge.
  4. Use the Small Key on the first door, then descend the spiral staircase.
  5. Burn the webs with a Torch held in your right hand.
  6. Use the Prison Key on the barred inner door.

2. Find the lower staircase

  1. Once inside the prison, note the stairs where you entered. Do not follow the whole three-lever puzzle if your immediate goal is just the Pickaxe.
  2. Return to those entry stairs and look for the adjacent staircase continuing downward.
  3. Follow it to the door on the lower level.
  4. Check the door's on-screen requirement and open it. An Iron Rod can also be collected in this lower area; do not automatically assume the rod is consumed to unlock this door.
  5. Go through and take the Pickaxe. Beware of skeleton archers above as you collect the items.

3. Use the Pickaxe on yellow Goo Piles

  1. Equip the Pickaxe.
  2. Look for the bright yellow mounds along blocked passages.
  3. Strike the mound itself rather than the surrounding stone or floor.
  4. Collect the materials it releases. The yellow piles are a useful source of Clay.
  5. Revisit the sewers to clear yellow piles you passed before getting the tool.

Once you have Clay, see where to use it. You do not need to build a separate camp Smelter before finding the Pickaxe: the Big Smelter used for keys is already installed in the dungeon.
